The junk pile
A downloadable game
Before the actual Hardware for KS1 was delivered, I spent some time messing about with programming games on CSpect and ZesarUX. As these games have been on random google drives, etc, I figured it would make more sense slapping them up on itch here where they can be found easily.
Yes - be pre-warned that these are old. They could do with rewriting and updating, there may be a random bug pop up (however unlikely) and some have notes, etc included for those curious about the games and how they work.
The many updates that have happened in NextBasic over the last few years could turn some of these into more polished and faster games. So, if you want some random stuff to play, tear apart, modify, or to improve on... Enjoy!
EGG ON YA FACE
- Something random written one afternoon during an Easter weekend. Stop the kiddies from eating your easter eggs.
- NOTE : When the game loads, press BREAK (shift space) and then type RUN... (it autoruns - without the CPU speed cranked up... Doh!)
FROGBERT
- My experimental attempt to see if I could make a 'qbert' style game - but with a frog, lily-pads and spiders instead.
- Includes PDF with brainstorm notes and some code overview
GLUG GLUG
- This isn't old at all - its a classic old 80's "catch the falling items" game mechanic, wrapped up as a classic old-school "LCD" hand held style game.
- Includes source code (txt) and PDF Code break down and overview
LANDER
- I did a tutorial on writing a game on the Next years ago - and this is the result! Rescue 3 stranded astronauts and return them safely to the mother ship.
- Includes source code (txt), miscellaneous photos
- Video tutorials are HERE on Youtube
NEXT TREK
- A game that really, really has that "typed in" feel. Commander Splork travels with you as you explore the galaxy, destroy Klankons, visit planets and rescue ships in distress before finding your Starbase. The Klankon fleet move in real time, so no sitting around... Just don't run out of energy or shields.
- Talking "typed in", there is a magazine-style listing PDF for anybody really, really desperate to spend hours bashing keys... Go on, you know you WANT to...
- Includes Pseudo code, brainstorming and code breakdown (txt) files.

Thanks, really appreciate these!
You just keep giving! Looking forward to taking a look at these too :-)
Big thanks for these.
I noticed the link to the video tutorial for Lander is not working. Perhaps an update needed? Found the playlist 😃

Doh! Thanks for spotting that one... I will update shortly 😬👍
No worries and thanks again. It’s unbelievable how far you’ve progressed from these to the latest games. It gives me hope! 😉
Sometimes its nice to look back and see older material, other times you cringe and look back with a 'what the heck did I think I was doing back then?!'.
Like anything the more you do it, usually the better you get at it. No different then learning art, music, etc...
It’s good to check back in I always think as it gives you an air of satisfaction as to what you are able to do now. I’ve a long way to go however the excellent manual plus your games and documentation have given me a superb start :-)
